Channel Stream TV

In my last post, I opened by reminiscing about how I missed watching a certain YouTube channel. Now I'm thinking about how much I miss it, and what on earth could be done about it.

I must have some panic disorder. For a time, calm YouTube shows like Technology Connections and other non-inflammatory video-essay style shows were a refuge when I was feeling overwhelmed.

At some point, I believe due to the enshittification of the platform, those calm serene spaces became drowned out with excitement and toxicity. The helpful suggestions leading to these capsules of calm serene medicine were replaced by a forceful push into a vat of noxious poison. Even these calm shows are embedded with frustrating distractions every few minutes. For these reasons, I haven't been able to enjoy YouTube or these calm shows in a long while.

It isn't just ads. It isn't just the culture there. It isn't only the overall enshittification that is driving these issues. All of it together; I can no longer support any of it with my attention.

I could go on and on about what is wrong there. Let's boil it down to one word: imbalance. I believe it should be possible to stream video content to your users without involving these detrimental components like ads and addiction or rage-based engagement.

To support this belief, there is already a website that appears to prove this concept beautifully.

May I introduce to you what has replaced all of my online TV viewing lately after a stretch of nothingness:

I'll warn you, the content is pretty wild. It is like a non-stop trip over there. I think just the content is amazing and wonderful.

But I'm not here to mention the strange content of this wonderful public service. I'm here to talk about the idea that it is possible to inexpensively stream a pre-set program of video content from an independent website.

I'm a web developer of sorts. Seeing the working proof, I can imagine a potential architecture that could efficiently achieve a similar result. I don't think this would be a difficult task for most full-stack developers.

So, can we have more please? If you are a video creator please pitch this to your developer friend. Likewise, devs y'all just imagine how easy and freeing a landscape of independent streaming websites could be.

Thanks for listening. What think you?
